BEIJING TO HOST 2010 TOURISM FOR TOMORROW AWARDS

WTTC announced its agreement with the Government of China to hold the 2010 Global Travel & Tourism Summit in Beijing from 25-27 May.

"We are very pleased to host this event, which is such a landmark in the annual industry calendar," said SHAO Qiwei, Chairman of the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA).


The Tourism for Tomorrow Awards are an integral part of the Global Travel & Tourism Summit agenda and included four dedicated sessions during the 2009 conference in Florianópolis, Brazil.


Winners and finalists will be invited as complimentary guests to attend the Global Travel & Tourism Summit and will be publicly recognised and meet government and industry leaders at the Awards ceremony during the Global Travel & Tourism Summit.

WTTC is inviting tourism companies and organisations from around the world that can demonstrate best practice in sustainable tourism development to submit their applications for the 2010 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 2 December 2009.


The Awards are determined in four categories, including:

  • Destination Stewardship
  • Conservation
  • Community Benefit
  • Global Tourism Business

Winner of the 2009 Global Tourism Business Award – Marriott International Inc, USA & Global


Judges’ Verdict: Marriott International, Inc. is a worldwide hospitality company founded in 1927 and headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. Over the last year and a half Marriott International has worked alongside Conservation International, a global conservation organization, to improve practices within their hotel buildings as well as develop a large-scale rainforest conservation project in the Amazon to protect biodiversity and mitigate climate change. Marriott’s holistic approach to sustainable management includes strict supply chain management, obtaining LEED certification for their offices and properties, and a solid waste and recycling programme.
